One of the many benefits of living in a walkable community like Maplewood is that you’re more likely to meet people and make interesting discoveries while walking. Several times a week my dog and I poke our heads in the usually open door of the Obata/Prieto studio at 3264 S. Big Bend Blvd. Me just to see what’s up and dog because he knows the whereabouts of the dog treat-stuffed canister.
These very friendly folks are usually engaged in the difficult and energetic pursuits of melting, pummeling, blowing, spinning, shaping, twirling (they both twirl), cutting and baking of clay and glass into the many forms they have become known for over more years in the business than they’re likely to admit.
The holidays are one of their busiest times of the year due to the popularity of their handmade items as gifts. Remember handmade. Because all of the plates, platters, bowls, cups, tumblers, mugs, vases, beads, necklaces, bracelets and etc. are guaranteed not to be computer generated. Want proof?
