Area Dogs Enjoy Pool Party at Maplewood Family Aquatic Center

The pooches took to the pool for a swim.

Area dogs took a dip at the Maplewood Family Aquatic Center on Sept. 10 and 11 for the seventh annual Dog Swim sponsored by the Maplewood Dog Park. Pooches of all breeds and ages swam together under the supervision of bright green-shirted lifeguards.

Danny, a golden retriever owned by Bob O'Neil of Richmond Heights, was one of many dogs returning from previous pool parties.

"The pool party is one of the highlights of his year," O'Neil said.

Danny seemed set on staying in the water all afternoon, playing fetch and swimming.

Other pool party participants were first-timers who seemed like old pros. Kate Achtien of the Central West End said her dog Dorothy had never swam before, but she took to the water like a natural.

For the few dogs who didn't seem fond of the water, there were games of chase and new friends to meet along the green areas surrounding the fenced-in pool area.
