Girl Scouts Add New Cookie for 2013

Sales continue until February 3, with delivery beginning Feb. 27

It's that time of year. Girl Scout Cookie sales begin Jan. 12, 2013, and a new cookie has been added to this year's lineup.

The Mango Creme, a vanilla and coconut sandwich cookie with a mango-flavored creme filling, joins this year's offering of Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, Shortbreads, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Lemonades and Thanks-a-Lots. Cookies cost $3.50 per package.

Orders will be taken from Jan. 12 until Feb. 3, and cookies will be delivered beginning Feb. 27. Booths will be set up between Feb. 27 and March 17 in locations around the Metro area.

Funds are used by GSEM for programs for girls, for adult volunteer training and for maintaining three local Girl Scout camps. Troops use their funds for everything from field trips to community service projects.

The cookie program has helped Girl Scouts practice skills such as goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics for more than 80 years.

According to a press release issued by the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri, five of the top 10 cookies sold in the U.S. are Girl Scout Cookies, and sales of thin mints surpassed Oreos in 2012.
