The Chamber Urges Voters to Vote "Yes" on Prop Q

The Chamber urges voters to say "Yes" to Prop Q

As many of you know, the Maplewood Chamber of Commerce supports the relocation of QuikTrip from their current location to the Northwest Corner of Big Bend and Manchester.

Following is a list of reasons that we hope Maplewood voters vote "Yes" on Prop Q tomorrow.

  • The relocation was scrutinized, studied, and eventually approved by both the Planning & Zoning Commission and City Council. QT only gained approval after making dozens of concessions and following months of meetings, public hearings, and a traffic study. No aspects of the relocation were left unaddressed.
  • Throughout the public hearings on the relocation of QuikTrip, it became apparent just how dangerous the intersection is as it sits today. With this in mind, QuikTrip agreed to make significant safety improvements to the property and intersection to keep pedestrians safer.
  • Safety improvements planned include improved vehicle and pedestrian visibility, traffic guards provided by QuikTrip, new and wider sidewalks, a dedicated right turn lane, etc.
  • QuikTrip's proposed relocation will be an economic benefit to the community. Zero taxpayer money will be used to dramatically improve the safety, and look of the corner. Increased sales as result of new and bigger QuikTrip will translate to higher sales taxes funneling back into our community.
  • Given the value of this property and what the owner can charge for rent, this space will be occupied by a "corporate" type of business. Maplewood will not have the leverage with another business that it has with QuikTrip, who needs zoning approval, only because of the fueling tanks. For instance,if a fast food restaurant or bar wanted to occupy the property, they could do so free and clear without making changes to the property.
  • QuikTrip has been a good corporate citizen in Maplewood for over 25 years. They've invested significant time and money to remain in our community.
