Going to South Africa!

A description of a trip I will hopefully take to South Africa where I will volunteer in an orphanage and teach the children how to read and write.

My name is Mindy Siebert and I graduated from in May of 2010. I am attending Drury University where I have just completed my second year! I am majoring in biology and psychology with the hopes of one day making a difference. I want to work with children who have home issues or other issues they need help with.

Through Drury University I have been offered a once in a lifetime opportunity. This is to go to South Africa and volunteer in a orphanage with children who have lost their parents to HIV or malaria.

While I am there I will be teaching the children English and offering some much-needed support in this difficult time in their lives. I would really love to go on this trip! However, it is really expensive and I just don’t have the funds to send myself there. I really want to do this and I feel like when I am there if I make a difference in even one child's life it would be worth it. This is an eye-opening experience that could not be paralleled and it is exactly what I hope to do someday with my future.

I want to help children who have nothing, and show them that there is something to look forward to, and that they have their whole lives ahead of them.

If anyone has any ideas on how to get funding for this trip please feel free to email me. I am looking for donations and scholarships that will help me be able to go there and do this work. Any and every little bit of help would be greatly appreciated!
