Moms Talk Q&A: How Does Your Family Stay Physically Active?

With so many families constantly on-the-go, what do you to make time for physical activity?

Between school, sports, extracurriculars and Xbox, kids might sometimes forget about making time for physical activity, even if we all recognize the importance of exercise. What do you do as a parent to encourage physical activity? How do you make the time?

And, most importantly, what tips can you share for other moms and dads in the community?

Please jump in and offer your thoughts in the comments box below. Our Moms Council members will share their stories too.

One of the nice things about living in Brentwood is that we are close to everything! When the weather is nice my husband and I put on our walking shoes, throw a cooler and ice packs in our son's stroller, and walk to Whole Foods for fresh groceries for dinner. On the weekends we walk to St. Louis Bread Co for breakfast or lunch and at least once a week we walk to Tilles Park. Walking is so easy and its something the whole family can do (well almost the whole family - our 11-month old son thinks he can walk, but only if there is a couch, coffee table, and/or hand to hold)!

I agree with Katrina that we are lucky to have so many options in and around Brentwood to help keep our family moving. We love walking to local restaurants to grab dinner and wish there were even more to choose from. Our family takes advantage of the paths throughout our neighborhood for walking the dog, running and biking. We also enjoy visiting The Heights where everyone in our family can find something to keep them active including swimming, playing basketball, participating in a fitness class or using the exercise equipment.

We like walking. Actually our dog Koa likes it when we take him walking. The nature trails rank ten plus tail wags. Sometimes we see an interesting critter (to chase) like a groundhog or a fox. Although we haven't seen any yet, some of our neighbors have seen deer in the woods. Koa is hopeful for an encounter. In the summer time you will find us all at the Brentwood Swim Club. An evening swim is so relaxing. And you can hear the frogs chirping at night. I can't wait until it's warm enough to swim!
