Be Positive This Holiday Season

Try to make the holidays happier for yourself and others.

I haven't really blogged on here in a while, but I have been reading a young man's blog on Facebook for a few months now, and have come up with some thoughts. So I thought I would throw them out there for your perusal.

The blog I have been reading is called "Single Dad Laughing. It is about a single dad, whose name is Dan Pearce, who is sharing custody with his ex-wife in raising their son. For the most part it is highly entertaining and very funny.

Lately he has shared two posts that have taken him some time to write because they concern bullying and gay people. He shares his own feelings on these two subjects, and wow, what a way he has about sharing his thoughts. He is an excellent writer. He was bullied as a child, so he knows what it feels like. He is not gay, but I'm guessing he has some friends who are.

Both of these blog posts have brought hundreds of responses from people, as you can imagine. There have been many hateful and nasty ones, but there have been more positive and loving ones.

One young man actually wrote that Dan had saved his life. He had all the things ready to end his life in his medicine cabinet. He had come out to his family and friends first, and instead of showing him some love (which family and friends are supposed to do), they were all turning away from him and telling him he was terrible.

The man came across Single Dad Laughing's post, and after reading it, he changed his mind. As he said, he really didn't want to kill himself - he just wanted to get away from all the hate.

And therein lies what I wanted to talk about and hopefully have you all think of during this holiday season.

Please think of dropping all the negative thoughts and feelings you might have this Thanksgiving and Christmas season, and instead turn them into positive feelings. Why spend your life hating and disliking, grumbling and whining, and generally using your energy for that? Think of all the happiness you could bring by being pleasant and smiling, being positive and complimenting others on little things. You not only make yourself happy, but also the other person.

The positive energy is much better for your health than the negative energy. It is a win, win situation.

If you can't completely change your outlook on life, at least try it for the rest of this year. You will be much happier, I will guarantee you. If I have learned nothing else in my life, I have learned that life is so short, and it should not be wasted being unhappy.

Everyone have the very best and thankful Thanksgiving, and a beautiful and happy Christmas. Don't forget to wish baby Jesus a very Happy Birthday!
