Update (Monday, 3:40 p.m.) —

Many residents in Brentwood and Maplewood remain without power on Monday after a storm knocked down trees and power lines.

Ameren reports that 725 homes are without power in the Brentwood ZIP code (63144) and 68 are without power in the Maplewood ZIP code (63143) as of 3:35 p.m. That's down from 1,500 total homes around 2 p.m.

No injuries have been reported in Brentwood or Maplewood, police officials said.

All roads have been cleared in Maplewood and everything is mostly calm now, said Lt. Mark Griffin of the .

No major damage was reported in Brentwood. Brentwood police received six or eight calls about downed trees and wires, but most debris has been cleared, said Maj. Dan Fitzgerald of the .

Maplewood crews responded quickly to a severe storm that blew through the St. Louis area around 1 p.m. Scanner reports indicated multiple downed trees and power wires, which caused some roads to be blocked off.

The 2000 block of Bellevue Avenue in Maplewood was blocked off because of a tree that landed in two yards.

Libby Edwards said her son Stu Lynch was outside when the tree fell down. He described it to her as just like in a movie, with a wall of wind, a big crack and a giant branch off of a sycamore tree between the two houses falling down through the electrical wires.

They called 911 and authorities taped off the area. The road is now open.

watch those firemen. They love to go in the attic & step on the wiring damaging it. The metatron knows it leaves a stench in your nose!

I was just thinking, if you happen to see something.....like the sign in front of City Hall, or theRead More sign in Schnuck's parking lot....regarding something going on in Brentwood, now you can click on the "Post" board at the top of the page, and let people know what is happening in Brentwood. We have the new format so we can now post whatever we want. Just click and post. Anyone can do it too.

I doubt this discrepancy you think exists is because the editors have more of a connection toRead More Maplewood. I imagine it is because Maplewood officials and Chamber of Commerce members send press releases to the editors regarding upcoming events and news items. If you want your local community to have more of a presence in the Patch, I suggest you contact the proper officials in Brentwood and urge them to send such notices. Self-promotion for a community is a good thing, although in the case of Brentwood Days and other iconic Brentwood events, it was my understanding that the city didn't want it publicized and preferred it to be a smaller event.
