2011 Brentwood Grad Charged with 1st Degree Assault at Jimmy John's

Police say William Hampel drove over one person's foot, while a second had to jump to escape injury.

A Brentwood man was with hitting one restaurant employee with his car and trying to hit another person.

William P. Hampel, 19, of the 2600 block of Louis Avenue in , was charged Thursday with first-degree assault, attempted first-degree assault and two counts of armed criminal action.

Hampel is a 2011 graduate of .

said Hampel cursed at and threatened employees at , 1230 Strassner Ave., at about midnight on July 2. He then retrieved a garbage bag from outside and began throwing trash inside the restaurant, police stated in a report.

When Hampel left, two employees went outside to get his license plate number and Hampel drove at them, seriously injuring one by running over the worker’s foot, according to court documents. The second employee escaped injury by jumping out of the way, police stated in the report.

Bond was set at $200,000.
