One person lives in the house at the end of the 7600 block of Marion Court, and Maplewood Fire Chief Terry Merrell said they weren't home when the house caught on fire Thursday around 10 a.m. Merrell said the fire started in the kitchen.
Due to the heat and humidity Merrell called a second alarm to allow firefighters to cycle through fighting the fire and resting more often.
In addition to Maplewood, departments came from Richmond Heights, Brentwood, Rock Hill, Kirkwood, Webster Groves, Clayton, Affton and Shrewsbury.
Crews had the fire under control in 15 minutes.
