A man was charged May 31 with breaking into his former Maplewood home and hitting his wife and daughter with a hammer.
Carlos Crues, 55, faces second-degree assault, third-degree domestic assault, first-degree burglary, violating a protection order and resisting arrest charges.
said in a report that Crues broke into the home in the 2400 block of Florent Ave. about 4:45 a.m. May 31. His wife awoke and found him going through her purse, and he came at her with a hammer, the report states.
During the assault, he struck his 16-year-old daughter with the hammer, injuring her face and mouth, according to the report. Police said also hit his wife in the elbow with the hammer and punched her.
Crues has been banned from entering the home or contacting his wife by a court order of protection enacted Nov. 14. Since that time, Crues has pleaded guilty twice to violating the order of protection, according to court documents.
Police said during an arrest June 1, he resisted by throwing a metal container at officers and threatening them.
