Maplewood Man Gets 4th DWI Charge 3 Days after 3rd DWI Conviction

Maplewood Police said an officer pulled over Paul L. DeRoy Jr. after he swerved over the center yellow lines twice.

A Maplewood man faces his fourth driving while intoxicated charge after being pulled over by police. He had been convicted of his third DWI three days previously.

Paul L. DeRoy Jr, 46, of the 7500 block of Rannells Avenue in Maplewood, was charged Monday with DWI as an aggravated offender, a felony.

Maplewood Police said an officer pulled DeRoy over March 29 when he couldn’t maintain a single lane, crossing over the yellow lines twice near the intersection of Rannells Avenue and Big Bend Boulevard.

The officer said when he pulled DeRoy over, he could smell a strong odor of alcohol and said DeRoy had watery and bloodshot eyes. The officer reported that DeRoy admitted drinking a 2x4 (a 24-ounce beer).

Police said DeRoy did poorly on a sobriety test and refused a breath test.

Earlier this year, DeRoy was convicted of DWI March 29 in Jefferson County. He also was convicted of DWI in 2004 in the city of St. Louis and in 1992 in Overland.

Bail was set at $50,000 for DeRoy.
