Jumpin Jupiter Patrons Leave When Maplewood Police Arrive Sunday Night

The Jumpin Jupiter, which is usually open Thursday through Saturday, had no shows this weekend.

The doors were locked Thursday. On Friday, a sign on the door said the "Party has been moved..." On Saturday it read "Show Canceled For Circumstances Beyond Our Control..."

On Sunday night, Maplewood police checked out a report of patrons in the club, which they assumed was closed, one said on police radio. Patch heard the report on a scanner.

Police arrived, and within 30 minutes about 20 patrons had left. Three officers left with the last one out, who locked the door.

One of the patrons said there was a "private improv thing" going on. An officer on the scene declined to give specifics why the patrons were cleared out.

Recent emails to the owners have not been immediately responded to.

The city revoked the club's license on Nov. 27 for failing to pay state taxes. Owner Jim Calahan said it was a misunderstanding, was able to straighten things out with the state, and kept the show going until this weekend.

Callahan lost his license and regained it in the same way in June of this year.
