Police from St. Louis and Maplewood safely resolved a standoff in the 3300 block of Greenwood Boulevard late Thursday afternoon.
A man suspected of robbing 7-Eleven at Southwest and McCausland avenues fled on foot into Maplewood, said Stephen Kruse, chief of .
A canvas check of the area uncovered a suspect who fit the description. The suspect reportedly entered an apartment building on Greenwood Avenue. St. Louis and Maplewood police surrounded the building around 4 p.m.
Police blocked off Greenwood Boulevard for several blocks, and there were at least eight police vehicles on the scene. At one point, it appeared that two officers were crouched behind a vehicle with guns drawn.
The suspect surrendered, with no shots fired, around 5:15 p.m.
“We finally talked him out,” Kruse said. “Nobody was hurt, and that’s the important thing.” He said the investigation is ongoing.
A teacher from Maplewood Richmond Heights, who declined to be identified, lives nearby and saw the suspect running west on the railroad tracks that run north of Greenwood Boulevard. He said the St. Louis City police arrived just before the Maplewood police.
