New MRH Class to Combine Video Production, Journalism

A news production of the "accident scene" on Wednesday morning was a trial-run of the new class.

On Wednesday morning, as students witnessed a , another group was recording the scene for a class.

Currently, Dave Grossman teaches a video production class and Otto Schultejans teaches journalism. Beginning next year, the two will team up to teach a “mobile journalism" class.

Students produced a video production of the DWI demonstration on Friday morning, which Grossman called a prototype of what will be taught next year.

"Our game plan is not to be the news, with anchors,” he said. “We want to create one to two-minute video pieces, very much like you see on the evening news–without the anchors–focusing on the production aspect of it.”

He said the students will use small, inexpensive high-definition video cameras. The idea is to record an event quickly and put out a video, hopefully within hours.
