Based on recent shootings around the country, St. Louis County Police Department has added a video on its website in an effort to provide guidance for those who might find themselves in the middle of a life-threatening situation.

Tips for surviving an active shooting include:
- If you can run, run.
- Don't worry about your things. Remember, you are the most important thing to save.
- Call 9-1-1 as soon as you are safe.
- If you can't run, hide in a place where you'll be proetected from stray bullets.
- When first responders arrive, remember that their priority is stopping the shooter. Help for the injured will come later.
