St. Louis County Police Department offers a video to help people who may find themselves in the middle of an active shooter event.

Based on recent shootings around the country, St. Louis County Police Department has added a video on its website in an effort to provide guidance for those who might find themselves in the middle of a life-threatening situation.

The video can be viewed with this article or found on the county police website at www.stlouisco.com/police. It's the video in the upper right hand corner called "Run. Hide. Fight."

The professionally made video provides a chilling scenario that, sadly, some people have found themselves in the middle of in Colorado, and other places. The video explains what steps people can take to survive a potentially deadly situation.

Tips for surviving an active shooting include:

  • If you can run, run. 
  • Don't worry about your things. Remember, you are the most important thing to save.
  • Call 9-1-1 as soon as you are safe.
  • If you can't run, hide in a place where you'll be proetected from stray bullets.
  • When first responders arrive, remember that their priority is stopping the shooter. Help for the injured will come later.
