Police: $15,000 Fraud Suspect in Custody

Also, $8,800 in jewelry reported stolen from Maplewood home.

The following information was supplied by the Maplewood Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction. 

Tuesday, June 18

  • A 21-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting merchandise from a Maplewood Commons business. 
  •  An attempt burglary was reported in the 7200 block of Anna Avenue. The suspect(s) damaged a window screen, but did not get into the residence.
  • A lawnmower was reported stolen from a residence in the 7200 block of Gayola Place.
  •  A 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting merchandise from a Maplewood Commons business.
  • Police are investigating a fraud of approximately $15,000 that originated at a Maplewood Commons business between December 2012 and January 2013. A suspect has been identified, and is currently in custody and charges are pending.

  • At approximately 12:30 a.m. an officer tried to conduct a traffic stop in the 7800 block of Manchester Road, but the vehicle failed to yield to the officer.  A computer inquiry on the vehicle revealed it was a stolen. The officer discontinued any further action and the information was relayed to surrounding agencies about the stolen vehicle failing to stop for the officer. The suspect was identified and taken into custody several hours later. Charges are pending. 
  •  A 21-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of stealing merchandise from a Maplewood Commons business totaling approximately $450.
  • A 20-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of stealing merchandise from a Maplewood Commons business.
  • A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a drug violation and possession of drug paraphernalia in the 2500 block of Bellevue Avenue.
  • Approximately $8,800 in jewelry was reported stolen from a residence in the 2600 block of Valley. Police have several leads regarding the suspect(s).
