Police Arrest Two Suspects in Connection With Copper Thefts

The suspects may be responsible for a string of thefts in Brentwood and across the county, police said.

Two suspects who police say are responsible for in Brentwood were arrested on Feb. 6 in Sunset Hills.

Joseph Travis, 28, and Samantha Norwood, 22, will be charged with second-degree burglary and stealing, stated Maj. Dan Fitzgerald, assistant police chief in Brentwood, in an e-mail to Maplewood-Brentwood Patch.

Police say the suspects entered nine vacant Brentwood homes over the past several weeks and stole copper pipes from inside. Every home had a "For Sale" sign in the yard. The suspects also stole copper pipes from homes in Crestwood, Kirkwood, Rock Hill, Sunset Hills, Webster Groves and parts of South County, Fitzgerald said.

Travis and Norwood were arrested after a Sunset Hills police officer found them fleeing a home, Fitzgerald stated. At about 11:20 p.m., the officer was investigating a suspicious car in the 10200 block of Marbern Terrace, . The story also notes:

Shortly after police determined it was likely a getaway car, Norwood and Travis came out of a nearby house.

Police said the pair took off running when they saw police. Police chased them down quickly and took both into custody.
