Rape Charges Filed Against Maplewood Man

The charges stem from an incident reported on June 7.

A Maplewood man is set to appear before a Grand Jury after being charged with second degree rape and sodomy of a 14-year-old girl on June 7.

Edward Runnels, 44 of 3109 Laclede Station Road, is being held on a $50,000 bond. Police arrested Runnels on the same day of the alleged crime.

The Grand Jury, composed of 12 citizens, will determine if probable cause exists for the crime, and if the suspect was the one who committed it, notes the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney website. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for July 25.

I doubt this discrepancy you think exists is because the editors have more of a connection to…Read More Maplewood. I imagine it is because Maplewood officials and Chamber of Commerce members send press releases to the editors regarding upcoming events and news items. If you want your local community to have more of a presence in the Patch, I suggest you contact the proper officials in Brentwood and urge them to send such notices. Self-promotion for a community is a good thing, although in the case of Brentwood Days and other iconic Brentwood events, it was my understanding that the city didn't want it publicized and preferred it to be a smaller event.
