Sports Attic Fire Cause Undetermined – For Now

Brentwood fire chief said results of the investigation should be known in about a month.

To appearances, the was simply demolished by heavy equipment the afternoon of the morning .

Brentwood Fire Chief Ted Jury said the demolition had a purpose.

The fire seemed to have started in the basement, he said, which caused the floors to collapse. Because of that, there was no safe way for investigators to enter the building to try and determine a cause.

The excavator was used to "peel away the walls," Jury said, so investigators could examine the destroyed building. When they were finished, so little was left standing that it was a hazard. Jury said at that point, they got permission from the Sports Attic's insurance company to finish knocking down the entire building.

The St. Louis County bomb and arson unit is working on determining the cause of the fire. Jury said the results of the investigation will be known in about a month.
