3 Maplewood Businesses to Go Smokeless if Exemptions End

Two Maplewood bars and a bowling alley currently allow smoking. The St. Louis County Council may vote to change that.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, St. Louis County Councilman Mike O’Mara plans to introduce legislation Tuesday to apply the St. Louis County smoking ban to all bars and restaurants equally, including the county casinos.

Three Maplewood businesses would be effected.

  • Saratoga Lanes, 2725 Sutton Boulevard
  • McLain's Corner Bar Grill & BBQ, 3516 S Big Bend Boulevard
  • Foleys Bar & Grill, 3522 Greenwood Boulevard

Brentwood has already banned smoking in all bars and restaurants.

  • Brentwood Goes Smoke-Free; Local Bar Owners Unhappy
  • Aldermen Still Undecided on Smoking Ban Exemption
  • Brentwood Committee Will Discuss Smoking Ban Exemption

Has a smokey environment kept you from any of these Maplewood businesses? What about smokers' rights?

Oh man, I cannot wait to finally go to Saratoga Lanes! I have tried several times, but the lack of oxygen kept me from making it up the stairs.

This would be so wonderful! I think Saratoga is missing out on many potential patrons--so many families in the MRH community--by allowing smoking there. We live down the street and have wanted to go many times as well but, thus far, have never even walked in the door.

Oh, me too! I'll get the urge to go check it out, and by the top of the stairs - it's always, no way..

Saratoga knew this was coming down the pipeline. That's why they build that outdoor upper deck that hangs above the parking lot. I wonder why they didn't ban smoking indoors once the outdoor space was installed.

Omg, three businesses in all of Maplewood are not politically correct..... The horror. Oh but it is THEIR businesses right, THEIR money right, they should be able to run as THEY CHOSE right? What wrong with this picture.... Oh yea sorry no more choices in life.

I was just thinking, if you happen to see something.....like the sign in front of City Hall, or theRead More sign in Schnuck's parking lot....regarding something going on in Brentwood, now you can click on the "Post" board at the top of the page, and let people know what is happening in Brentwood. We have the new format so we can now post whatever we want. Just click and post. Anyone can do it too.

I doubt this discrepancy you think exists is because the editors have more of a connection toRead More Maplewood. I imagine it is because Maplewood officials and Chamber of Commerce members send press releases to the editors regarding upcoming events and news items. If you want your local community to have more of a presence in the Patch, I suggest you contact the proper officials in Brentwood and urge them to send such notices. Self-promotion for a community is a good thing, although in the case of Brentwood Days and other iconic Brentwood events, it was my understanding that the city didn't want it publicized and preferred it to be a smaller event.
