After Old Tank Is Removed, a New State Farm Agency

The owner of the property said the remediation is being done by the book.

If all goes well, a brand new agency will soon sit on the southwest corner of Brentwood Boulevard and White Avenue. The new owner, Chris Thornton, said it will look similar to the , across the street.

The agency is his wife’s, Pam Thornton. Her office is currently on Litzsinger Road. Chris Thornton is an attorney. He currently shares the Litzsinger space with his wife.

But environmental issues need to be taken care of, before they can break ground on construction.

Thornton, who bought the lot a year ago, said three petroleum storage tanks were removed in 2008.

There was one more in the ground no one knew was there. It was removed on Tuesday.

Thornton was at the site with an environmental engineer, and representatives of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the Petroleum Storage Tank Insurance Fund (PSTIF). The PSTIF ensures an owner can pay for environmental cleanup if needed.

“We thought it was fully remediated,” Thornton said. “It was far from remediated by state standards.”

This time, “Everyone should know it’s being done right,” he said.

If all goes well, they’ll break ground on the 2,700 square foot building this summer and will open for business by the first of 2013.
