Brentwood Aldermen Sworn In, Departing Members Recognized

Three first-time aldermen and one incumbent were sworn in at Monday's meeting.

Following a sometimes-tumultuous aldermanic race in Brentwood's Ward 1, a close one in Ward 4, and two uncontested races, the four aldermen were sworn in.

City administrator Bola Akande read the certified election results, then Maureen Saunders (Ward 1), Cindy Manestar (Ward 2), Andy Leahy (Ward 3) and Patrick Toohey (Ward 4) were sworn in, and walked behind the platform and took their seats.

Barbara Clements was recognized for her 19 years as alderman, and Mike Marshall for his 11 years of service.

Lorraine Krewson couldn't make the meeting because of illness, so her daughters accepted the recognition for her. Krewson was city clerk for 30 years before she became alderman for Ward 4.

Barb Clements has been a great alderwoman, is a great neighbor and a friend. Thank you Barb for everything you have done.

Barb Clements has been a friendly, highly visible and attentive alderperson. Her political career would have taken off but for the guy in her life who (its rumored) once contemplated legal action against John F. Kennedy Jr. for using his name on a magazine.
Good luck Barb! WT Nolan

Thank God there is some new blood on the city council! It is a shame that two of them were re-elected without a challenge. They should all be thrown out.

I am thrilled that Maureen was elected. She was the spark that helped begin the process of cleaning up city hall. I am sure Mayor Kelly is thrilled.....

I was just thinking, if you happen to see something.....like the sign in front of City Hall, or theRead More sign in Schnuck's parking lot....regarding something going on in Brentwood, now you can click on the "Post" board at the top of the page, and let people know what is happening in Brentwood. We have the new format so we can now post whatever we want. Just click and post. Anyone can do it too.

I doubt this discrepancy you think exists is because the editors have more of a connection toRead More Maplewood. I imagine it is because Maplewood officials and Chamber of Commerce members send press releases to the editors regarding upcoming events and news items. If you want your local community to have more of a presence in the Patch, I suggest you contact the proper officials in Brentwood and urge them to send such notices. Self-promotion for a community is a good thing, although in the case of Brentwood Days and other iconic Brentwood events, it was my understanding that the city didn't want it publicized and preferred it to be a smaller event.
