Thursday she contacted Patch with an update on the process. Following is the text of Akande's email:

The property owner delivered the insurance check to the City on June 6.

Per Brentwood Code and state statute, the City receives 10 percent of the insurance proceeds to hold in escrow as security until the demolition/site clearance project is successfully completed.

The demolition contractor, AALCO, has not received approval from the utilities, which is required prior to obtaining St. Louis County approval. Once the County has given the necessary permits, there will be a 14-day waiting period before abatement can commence.

Notices including the date when the demolition/abatement/clearance project will commence will be mailed to all property owners within 300 feet of the Sports Attic property.  Per Brentwood Code, these notices are delivered one week prior to the work starting.
