Brentwood Honors its Veterans

The ceremony included Boy Scouts leading the pledge to the flag and a local professional singer singing the Star Spangled Banner.

The City of Brentwood recognized its military veterans yesterday in its annual  ceremony at City Hall.

Each veteran stood and told the group of about 50 when they served.

After the Boy Scouts led the pledge and Brentwood resident Cheri Ann Schear sang the Star Spangled Banner, resident Kevin McCarthy told about what serving in the military has done for him.

"Without that discipline and respect I was taught in the military, I don't think I would have (the careers) and the success I've seen," McCarthy said.

He served in Germany and the NATO Headquarters in Paris during the Vietnam War peace talks.

Since the military he worked for Voice of America and CBS.

He said in his rural high school, of his graduating class of 403, 38 men and women were lost in the Vietnam conflict.

The group watched a video McCarthy produced on the armed services, and Brentwood mayor Pat Kelly spoke.
