Brentwood is Hiring a Human Resources Officer

It's a newly-created position in the city's administration department.

The city of Brentwood is hiring a human resources manager to "organize, coordinate and direct the development, implementation and day-to-day administration of human resources policies," notes a job posting on the city's website.

The new position will fill a vacancy in the administration department created by the departure of Karen Mosby, who previously worked as a finance officer. Mosby resigned from the city effective Friday.

The city recently hired Gina Jarvis to work as a finance director, which was different than the finance officer position.

The human resources manager is a new position that wasn't previously budgeted for, City Administrator Bola Akande said. Once Mosby announced her intent to resign, city officials reviewed the needs of the city and decided to shift some responsibilities by changing the position, Akande said.

"We need to develop a process where we're adhering to best practices," Akande said. "Now we're getting that expertise internally."

The new position will also handle employee orientation, coordinate employee training and process payrolll, the city's website notes.

Last September, the Brentwood Ways and Means Committee approved a $8,600 contract to hire a human resources consultant to construct a new employee manual for the city. That process is ongoing, and Akande doesn't expect the new human resources position to affect the manual's creation, she said.

The new position's expected salary will range between $56,146 to $78,236, depending on qualifications, the job posting notes. A full description of the job duties is available on the city of Brentwood website.

The hiring process is expected to take 60 to 90 days, Akande said.
