City officials have been contemplating the future of the aging complex for years but aldermen have remained divided on whether the building should be renovated or closed down.

When discussions reignited last April, were expected for any rec center renovation. At the time, some of the aldermen wanted to send a bond issue to the voters.
But the issue has largely been tabled after the city experienced its two financial scandals last summer.

The rec center's future came back into focus during aldermanic meetings in May and June. The board is expected to continue its discussion during Monday night's meeting.
