Brentwood Resident: "Mayor Bamboozles Residents"

Brentwood resident Thomas B. Martin isn't happy with the way Brentwood Mayor Pat Kelly painted the Brentwood state audit in a letter to the city. Kelly's letter was in the city newsletter.

Martin wrote "Brentwood Mayor Bamboozles Residents" in a scathing commentary in Maplewood-Brentwood Patch.

State Auditor Tom Schweich presented his audit of Brentwood to the public in May. Schweich gave the city his lowest rating. The audit was triggered by a successful citizen petition following the discovery of the then city administrator's theft of approximately $30,000 from the city.

Martin said Kelly "turned black into white."

"Mayor Kelly, in his recent letter to Brentwood residents, used only 7 1/2 lines to report to the residents that the audit had been completed.  He made no mention of the findings that there were serious deficiencies in 12 areas of management or that the overall rating was "Poor".
