Discussion of Aldermen Health Benefits Planned for Monday
After months of questions from residents and stories from multiple media outlets, the Brentwood Board of Aldermen is expected to discuss a health care benefit that's available to only some of the elected officials.
An update about the health care benefit that's available for some of 's elected officials is expected during a Board of Aldermen meeting on Monday night.
The tentative agenda for the 6 p.m. meeting includes an item about the health benefit.
Newly-elected officials Maureen Saunders and Patrick Toohey aren't eligible for coverage because the city has been phasing out the benefit. Alderwoman Cindy Manestar, also new, gets the benefit through her husband, Jeff Manestar, a Brentwood police officer.

Residents have questioned the legality of offering health care to some of the aldermen but not others.
Brentwood officials received a legal opinion regarding the benefit on May 30, but that opinion hasn't been made available to the public. Patch requested a copy on July 10 but was told by City Administrator Bola Akande that it was a closed record.
