Maplewood Firefighters to get New Car and Physicals

A Ford Police Interceptor will replace a 2007 Sedan, and SSM Healthcare will make sure the firefighters are fit for duty.

A new utility vehicle and medical physicals for the Maplewood Fire Department were approved by Maplewood City Council at a recent meeting.

Fire Chief Terry Merrel recommended the purchase of a 2013 Ford Police Interceptor (Exlporer) to replace a 2007 Ford 500 Sedan. The Interceptor has built-in wiring for emergency lighting and radio equipment, and better storage capacity for cargo.

The fire department sought a bid proposal in the amount of $25,341 from Joe Machens Ford dealership, which city council accepted and which will be paid for out of the quarter cent sales tax fund.

The sedan will be given to the fire department's building division for use. Chief Merrell said the Ford SUV will be red.

City council also approved medical physicals to be administered to all 20 firefighters of the fire department by the SSM DePaul Medical Group. Three bids were proposed, and DePaul's was chosen as the best overall service package at $12,670.
