Maplewood Mayor, Council Positions May Get Raises

The increases would begin with the winners of the April 2015 elections. The last approved pay increase for Maplewood officials was in 1984.

For the first time in 28 years, Maplewood's mayor and city council may be getting a pay increase.

The council gave initial approval at Tuesday's meeting to increase the mayor’s salary to $6,000 from $4,800. Council members’ salaries would increase to $3,500 from $2,400.

Tuesday's approval was the first. A final approval will have to take place before the ordinance becomes law. The current board and mayor would not see the increases on their paychecks because the raises would begin with the winners of the April 2015 elections.

When the 1984 pay increase for mayor and council was approved, the raises went into effect the following year.
