Maplewood Resident Protests Removal of Large Trees

Approximately 14 trees are marked to come down on Richmond Place and Gayola.

Maplewood resident, Stuart Yancey, asked at Tuesday’s city council meeting why the city plans to cut down more than a dozen large trees, the St. Louis Post Dispatch reports.

Yancey lives on Richmond Place. The city has scheduled street replacement on Richmond Place and Gayola Place this year, and city administration says the trees need to be removed because there is a possibility of them falling down when construction begins.

Yancy said he thought Xs painted on the trees meant they were to be trimmed, not removed.

City Manager Marty Corcoran told the Post Dispatch after the meeting that an arborist examined the trees and said it would be unsafe to keep them.
