Blasting, Widening I-270 Has $12.2 Million Price Tag for State

The size of the Interstate 270 widening project forces MoDOT to scale back other work.

The Missouri Department of Transportation has more than one hundred projects ongoing currently, but it's often more.

"Our number recently has been more than that. It's 112 this week," said MoDOT Customer Relations Manager, Marie Elliott.

But, Elliot said with some larger jobs currently underway, like the I-270 widening project between Manchester and I-44, MoDOT can't have a lot of other projects going on at the same time.

The cost for the I-270 widening project is $12.9 million, paid for with state funds, Bill Schnell, assistant district engineer for MoDOT said. It's a 2-year project. MoDOT will do first one side then the other.

Elliot said 112 to 140 projects are normally ongoing simultaneously in the St. Louis district, which includes St. Louis, Franklin, Jefferson and St. Charles counties, and St. Louis city.
