MRH School Board Sent 2 Letters to Maplewood City Officials on QT Ordinance in March

They both detailed concerns about amendments to the ordinance.

The Maplewood Richmond Heights Board of Education sent two letters to Maplewood city officials in March regarding proposed amendments to Proposition Q, the ordinance allowing QuikTrip to move to the corner of Manchester Road and Big Bend Boulevard.

  • The first, on March 12, was to Ward 3 Councilman Shawn Faulkingham. It listed the board's concerns about the proposed amendments, and referred to a letter the board sent to the council in November with suggestions for creating a safer environment for students.
  • The second, on March 26, was to Mayor James White and the council. It refuted that the school board had not responded to the city council regarding the proposed amendments to the ordinance, and detailed why the board's concerns haven't been met.

The March 26 letter concluded that the council should advocate for the ordinance's repeal:

As it appears to be accepted by a majority of the Council that the ordinance as passed in November is flawed, it should either be repealed by the Council, or the Council should advocate for its repeal through the referendum process. The Council will then have a clean slate to pass an unquestionably valid ordinance which the community can then judge on its merits. The Board could then freely endorse an ordinance with the proper safety and traffic concerns.
