New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, Popular Workout Times at The Heights

The parks and rec director said people came in to work out before they whoop it up.

For the past three years The Heights in Richmond Heights has been open on New Year’s Day, and the number of members coming in for their first workout of the year has grown each year, Director of Parks and Recreation Teresa Proebsting said.

“We always notice a spike in usage, especially in the winter months,” she said. “January and February, people are doing pretty good with their resolutions, then we start to see it level off in March.”

She advises people to adjust their workout time not to come in at the peak 4 – 7 p.m. period.

“Having bought new memberships, they’ll use them for a little bit. They start off gung-ho. It’s like that everywhere,” she said. For a while everybody is, ‘We’re going to be good, we’re going to work out, we’re going to get into shape.’”

She said new memberships and cold weather combine to make January and February busy in the fitness room.
