The process will be similar to when Dr. Penberthy was hired nine years ago.

The board hasn't released the name of the firm yet, but a representative will be interviewed at the next school board meeting on Sept. 20, Jones said.

Using focus groups with faculty, staff and community members, the firm will build a profile for what the school district seeks in a new superintendent.

It will then lead advertising efforts and conduct the search for a replacement. Jones said it will be the board's "sole discretion," to interview and make the final selection.

The board aims to name the new superintendent by the end of 2011.
