I must admit, it's been kinda fun watching this place go down in flames... I feel bad for all the people who have been mistreated, conned and gotten their hopes up based on lies told by Mr. Callahan in the process.... (And his hair plugs are super obvious. Who does he think he's fooling?)

Funny all the performers I know currently working there (my daughter included) are extremely happy with the venue and ownership. Methinks that the commenters here along with the reporter himself are just petty people with scores to settle. Perhaps Doug should stop calling himself a reporter if all he is going to "report" is pieces completely twisted to settle personal scores. That's not reporting, that's reserved for bloggers. If you are going to call yourself a reporter that you need to be impartial and report the FACTS neither of which can he seem to do. Perhaps one day he will be a big boy, move out of his mothers basement and learn to be a real reporter but until then anyone with half a mind should see he's clearly just a stalker with a score to settle and despite his best efforts the Jupiter is still doing an awesome job, putting on AWESOME shows, and staying in Business and I will gladly be there every Friday and Saturday night when my daughter performs...PROUD AS PROUD CAN BE!

Burlesque Mom - I reported the fact that Jim Callahan's business license was revoked in a public meeting. Folks with ties to JJ said the cause was a misunderstanding, not nonpayment of state taxes. He's welcome to expound on that and straighten it out for us, please.

The issue WAS a misunderstanding, plain and simple. Again perhaps you should do your research. Or perhaps you should stop trying to attack this venue based on whatever personal issues you have with it. Again as I stated on your other articles, you didn't write anything about the fact they have been giving free tickets to military personnel or doing a HUGE toy drive for toys for tots. You only "report", if that's what you want to try and call it, when you feel you can damage their reputation and frankly it's pretty pathetic.

Regarding research, Jim Callahan has my number from the multiple messages I've left for him, and Brandy Dunn had nothing for me when I saw her at city hall on Friday. About the other cool stuff, that's great. Patch has Announcements, which is for user uploaded content. Lots of people do it. It's under News, in the blue bar at the top. Thanks for bringing that up.

As far as Brandy not having a comment for you, I haven't had much contact with Brandy but personally as a woman if I was being stalked by some creepy "reporter" taking blurry shots of me from afar without my permission I wouldn't want to speak to you either.

I have got to say I hate seeing my daughter and her friends she performs with get upset because YOU attack their hard work and their "home" (the venue) on a constant basis trying to intentionally damage their business. You have no right to stalk people, you have no right to slander/libel a business for your own personal vendetta's, and you certainly need to stop calling yourself a reporter if you cannot report without bias or prejudice.

They are thriving. In fact they hosted a HUGE CHARITY event last night for USO of Missouri. Despite everything they took the time to host an AMAZING event to raise money for a phenomenal group! Of course Doug won't report this because it would show the true character of the Jupiter and those who work there versus this vicious slanted slander campaign he is crusading because of his personal vendetta against the venue. Interesting that every REAL news organization in Saint Louis including the TV Stations covered the charity event held last night yet nothing here but more attacks.

Burlesque Mom - Facts aren't slander. Also, I try to report what people who live in Maplewood are interested in, which includes news about Maplewood businesses opening and closing. If Mr. Callahan would like to post future charity events on Patch he can do so, like many other Maplewood businesses and organizations do.

Bmom, you clearly have a one-sided view of this situation. Just because your "daughter" works there, and just because the people you've dealt with are happy doesn't equate to a business being well run. The JJ clearly has issues dealing with deadlines, city government, and the citizens. The fact that you, in the vast minority here, think the business is fine, doesn't make it any less trashy of an idea for a business. You come off as abrasive, unprofessional, and have a vandetta against the Patch. I'm worried for your "daughter" for a number of reasons. One is you think its fine she works for such a mess of an institution, two is she probably doesn't exist, three you seem to have no life except to defent the JJ, and four you act like a pissy five year old. JJ is a dump, and I thought that well before their cavalcade of issues came about.
Doug, I believe red brick owns that building.

Doug he shouldn't have to "post" charity events, that's news you should be covering. Especially when he donated over 200 tickets to the USO and Active duty military on top of ALWAYS allowing Active Duty Military free admission. He didn't have to "post" anything on the REAL news sites they covered it because it was NEWS.
Bart I don't have a drop of emotional instability, in fact I am quite sane. What I have an issue with is people trying to force their close-minded bigotry on everyone else. It's a shame that ignorant close-minded people even exist in the 21st century but if I must tolerate their stupidity I certainly won't be forced to believe what they believe and I especially won't let some pathetic little man call himself a "reporter" and continually attack a business for no reason. As far as being in the vast Minority here I greatly disagree. The negativity displayed on all these articles is by the reporter himself and perhaps a handful of close-minded idiots. Take that versus the 4,000+ followers they have on facebook and consistent SOLD OUT STANDING ROOM ONLY crowds for their Friday and Saturday shows I think it is you people who are the minority. Hence also why the Jupiter is still proudly OPEN because thankfully there isn't enough of you close-minded people to even begin to cause them "real" problems.

Burlesque is an art form combining comedy, dance, theater and more. You call the Jupiter a dump...really? Have you LOOKED in Maplewood lately? I don't know what delusions of grandeur you have or what drugs you are taking but the Jupiter is one of the highest end/highest class if not THE HIGHEST in the entire city of Maplewood. You want to call the place a dump? Why don't you worry about any one of probably 20 other businesses I could name off the top of my head in the same area that aren't even remotely close to the level of the Jupiter. I would be willing to bet the wallpaper in the Jupiter costs more than the entire trailer park in which your single wide resides.

You sound so mature right now. Why don't you name off the other places that aren't at the same level as class as the JJ. As a matter of fact, I know Maplewood quite well, not that I need to justify myself to you. My trailer park? Very classy remark. I'm sorry that JJ spent all that money on wall paper. I actually am not "worried" about the JJ since it probably won't be around very long, and it five years people will ask, "what was that place that used to be there? Eh, who knows?" You say Doug doesn't report or do research, then when he says he's tried to contact members of the JJ, you call him a creeper. So which is it? Is he not doing his job? Is he not reporting? You have lost all integrity in this arena. Art museums are a far cry from the JJ, nice try though. And yes, some concert venues are trashy. I can't help noticing a few things. One is you never comment on the facebook page, apparently not wanting to reveal who you are, and blowing the facade of you being the mother of a worker. The second thing is that I see stories about other businesses and people in the tri-city area, so your "argument" that Doug is out to get the JJ is completely invalid. I haven't actually seen anything reported but facts, and if anything Doug had shown the JJ in a better light than deserved. Once again please please please find some help. There are people and resources for folks like you.

Oh and if you, and your "daughter" and her "friends" get that upset, and can't perform because of big meany Doug and all these meany weeny patch posts, then you all reallllly need to find adulthood, or a life, or another profession, or a shoulder to cry on, you can use the napkins to cry in when the JJ has to pack up, take down their taped -together signs, and yard sale-like banner, and hit the road.

Haha. I haven't seen any other overwhelmingly negative reviews from Doug. Seems like he is a fair and reasonable journalist.
I would venture a guess that it is not Jim you are debating with here, Bart. I've known Jim quite well in the past and he would have a hard time spelling/typing above a 3rd grade level. if I had to speculate, I would guess you're arguing with his half-his-age gold-digger accomplice Brandy Dunn. They met while she was working at (and he was patronizing) a East St Louis strip club if memory serves me correctly. Big suprise that they own the trashiest place in Maplewood. While I worked at his other establishment (which he lives above) I saw a LOT of shady things happen behind the scenes. Also, as far as burlesque being an art form.... The premiere burlesque group in St. Louis refuses to have any sort of relationship with JJ. That has to say something about the practices of the venue.Not to mention the chef leaving, the sound company pulling out and numerous cases of performers being unhappy with the management and in the worst scenereos, not being paid for their performances... Lastly, if Bmom is indeed the mother of a performer (not likly, i know) it seems she should be concerned that her daughter is working for people like this...

The issue is the bigger one which is a Saint Louis Wide issue where close-minded bigots think they can just say whatever they want, lie, slander, libel and otherwise attack other people or businesses and get away with it. The Jupiter will CONTINUE to thrive and do awesome because thankfully as I said people like you and Doug are the pathetic classless/tasteless minority. Its just a pity some idiot allows Doug to call himself a "reporter" when really all he truly is, is a sad pathetic little man crying himself at sleep at night in his mom's basement with a fixated hatred of a business that has done him no wrong. When Doug has proven himself to slander/libel, and otherwise twist things into repeated attacks against a business why would they talk to him? Or honestly why would anyone stop and talk to the creepy stalker that follows them everywhere they go, lurks outside the venue and calls in complaints, takes underhanded voyeuristic photos of owners and performers without permission, etc? It's a damn shame the castle doctrine doesn't apply to businesses because the way he lurks and stalks about he could EASILY be mistaken for a thief or other type of criminal. Also, if you look at the JJ articles, one was about Jim threatening other people with slander/libel lawsuits (didn't happen).... This seems to be a favorite threat from their crew.
