QuikTrip Referendum 79 Signatures Short, But There's Time to Make it Up

The referundum to stop the Quiktrip move is short 79 valid signatures, but the petitioners have until Sunday to rectify that.

The Maplewood City Council voted on Nov. 27 to allow QuikTrip to move its Maplewood store from the current location on Big Bend Boulevard to the northwest corner of Big Bend and Manchester Road, but if a citizen referendum is successful in collecting 1,038 valid signatures, the council will be forced to revote, and if the measure passes a second time it will go to the voters to decide in the April election.

Referendum petitioner Tonya Powell said out of 1099 signatures submitted, only 959 were valid.

"Over 100 signatures were from folks who said they were registered and either weren't registered voters at all, or they weren't registered in Maplewood," she said in an email to Patch. "Others either didn't sign it properly and/or they signed it twice so those were rejected as well."

She said in order to collect more signatures and submit them, they had to file an affidavit with the city letting them know they would be amending our petition by submitting additional signatures. She said she and Jeff Wiggs took it to city hall Wednesday morning.

Powell said signature gatherers will be on the streets until Sunday.
