Red-Light Camera Law Changes in Brentwood

Updated language clarifies how the cameras are policed in Brentwood.

Don't park your car in the middle of an intersection or you'll receive a $100 fine.

An amendment to Brentwood's red-light camera ordinance clarifies why vehicle owners are penalized for blasting through intersections when the light is red: it's the placement of the vehicle, not the operation of the vehicle.

It's an important distinction. By policing the vehicle's placement, the penalty is similar to a parking ticket and is not considered a moving violation, city attorney Frank Albrecht said.

No points are assessed against an owner's driver's license if no moving violation occurs.

The amendment, which was considered a "housekeeping matter" on the agenda, was passed by the Brentwood Board of Aldermen during a meeting on Monday night.

Cameras are located along Brentwood Boulevard at the intersections of Manchester Road and Rose Avenue.
