Repaving for Five Maplewood Streets

Maplewood city council passed a resolution at Tuesday's meeting to spend more than $1 million on the improvements.

Raineri's was the low bid out of 10 received.

Williams Avenue will be the first to be repaved. Either Marshall or Marietta avenues are after that. City Manager Marty Corcoran said Public Works Director Anthony Traxler is making that decision.

Corcoran said it normally takes a contractor 30 to 45 days to get performance bonds, after approval, before work can start, and the city won't let a contractor start work before they have the bonds.

When Marietta Avenue is repaved, the work will include a retaining wall, fencing and landscaping along the Marietta parking lot. This is mainly to block headlights of cars at night from shining into houses along the street. Marietta will be paved in concrete because of the high volume of traffic it receives.

The Marietta work will be done in stages so access to the Marietta parking lot won't be blocked off.
