Restaurant Inspections: Crow's Nest, Steak 'n Shake, Subway, Walmart Deli, Jack in the Box, White Castle

Steak 'n Shake, 7606 Manchester Rd.
Inspection date: Feb. 28
Grade: A (96)
Comments: Hepatitis A records were not up-to-date and employees’ personal belongings were noted in food storage areas. A can opener blade was soiled, reach-in coolers showed visible food debris, and walls and floors had dirt and debris build-up. Some refrigerator gaskets were recommended for replacement by March 10. A three-compartment sink faucet nozzle was leaking and recommended for repair by March 10.

Subway, 7249 Manchester Rd.
Inspection date: Feb. 15
Grade: A (92)
Comments: No current employees had food safety certification, and Hepatitis A records were not organized. Cutting board were recommended for resurfacing or replacement. Damaged ceiling tiles were recommended for repair by the end of February. The inspector also found a rodent trap for home use; pest control measures must be performed by certified professionals, according to the report.

Subway, 1900 Maplewood Commons Dr.
Inspection date: Feb. 12
Grade: A (98)
Comments: Hepatitis A records for employees were not organized. Gaskets on a reach-in cooler showed food debris building. Caulk behind a three-compartment sink was recommended for repair by Feb. 22.

Walmart Deli, 1900 Maplewood Commons Dr.
Inspection date: Feb. 12
Grade: A (99)
Comments: Chemicals were being stored with clean laundy on shelves; the establishment was asked to separate them. Walk-in coolers and freezers showed visible dust and debris on floors. 

 7336 Manchester Rd.
Inspection date: Feb. 5 (follow-up)
Grade: A (96)
Comments: The dish machine was fixed and all food containers were labeled following a prior inspection. Caulking behind sinks, the restaurant’s back door and kitchen flooring were recommended for repair by Feb. 15. 

Jack in the Box, 7250 Manchester Rd.
Inspection date: Jan. 23
Grade: A (96)
Comments: Walk-in coolers and kitchen walls showed visible food and grease debris, and were recommended for cleaning. Light bulbs in the area near the drive-up window were recommended for repair, and 

White Castle, 7485 Manchester Rd.
Inspection date: Jan. 10
Grade: A (98)
Comments: The dish machine was repaired following a previous inspection.  The restaurant was working on cleaning debris buildup on walk-in cooler and freezer floors, in microwave, kitchen floors and ceiling grates.
