Sports Attic Clean-Up "Next Week"

The asbestos abatement company filed its paperwork on Wednesday.

The asbestos abatement firm contracted to clean up the filed paperwork for a permit on Wednesday, which means work will start next week, according to AALCO administrative assistant Jen Goeken.

The remains of the Sports Attic sports bar have been there since April 13, when .

"As soon as we get the OK from St. Louis County, then I’ll be going down to Brentwood to apply for their demolition permit," Goeken said.

City Administrator Bola Akande said Wednesday afternoon the abatement contractor getting its permit has been the hold-up.

"They even sent out notices to the properties close-by that they would be starting in six to seven days," Akande said. "This was July 23 or so. I don’t know if they have other projects that’s keeping them busy, or the real reason."

Akande said the city website has updates on the project.

"Once they issue a permit they’ll give us a timeframe and notices will go out and then they’ll start work," she said.
