Maplewood Residents Appointed to Advise on Deer Creek Redevelopment

Three residents were appointed to a commission that will advise Maplewood City Council on whether the city should use tax-increment financing to redevelop the vacant building in Maplewood.

Consideration of a redevelopment at Deer Creek Center inched a bit closer last Tuesday at the regularly-scheduled meeting.

There will be 12 members appointed to a commission that advises Maplewood City Council whether it should approve to fund the redevelopment.

The group will be comprised of members appointed from different taxing bodies, including the City of Maplewood, Maplewood Richmond Heights School District, St. Louis County, the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District and the Zoo Museum District.

Maplewood City Council apppointed the city's three representatives to the commission during last Tuesday's meeting. The appointees are:

  • Mike Hummert
  • Dan Noonan
  • Skip Watkins

Each member has prior experience on a TIF commission, City Manager Marty Corcoran said.

Hummert and Noonan also serve on Maplewood’s Planning and Zoning Commission.

Watkins is an Assistant District Commissioner for Boy Scouts in the MRH School District. He was also named the Maplewood Educator of the Year in 1992 by the.
