Traffic Officer Added to Brentwood 2012 Budget

It's one of a few changes made between the city administrator's original proposal and what the Brentwood Board of Aldermen approved on Monday night.

A 2012 budget approved by the Brentwood Board of Aldermen contains a few changes from the by City Administrator Bola Akande.

The city plans to hire a full-time police officer to monitor traffic. That position was added after police chief Steve Disbennett made a public plea following Akande's budget presentation to the Ways and Means Committee in November.

The position is projected to cost about $70,000 in salary and benefits, Akande said. The city expects the officer to generate about $75,000 in fines, which will pay for the extra position, Akande said.

Some other changes from the :

  • Two longtime workers in Brentwood are retiring, so the city budgeted smaller salary numbers for their replacements in 2012.
  • A new ambulance, which was budgeted for this year, won't be delivered until 2012. Money budgeted for 2011 has been added to the 2012 budget.
  • Budgeted overtime costs in the were lowered by $10,000.
