Wellington Court Bridge Closed Until Spring 2013

Many in Maplewood use the bridge to go south. It's in St. Louis city, just south of the Greenwood neighborhood.

The bridge across the River Des Peres, at Wellington Court, closed yesterday for construction. It will be totally replaced, and will reopen in about a year.

Many in Maplewood use the bridge to go south to places like Ted Drewes, Dierberg's, or the River Des Peres Parkway, but it seems not many can name the street.

That's understandable because it starts out as McCausland Avenue at Manchester Road, changes to Ellendale Avenue as it winds southeast, then joins Wellington Court at the sharp left just before it crosses the river.

The road is about a block south of restraurant.

Justin Zimpher, a project manager for Fred Weber Construction, said when it's finished the transition from Ellendale Avenue to Wellington Court will be smoother. He said the project will cost $5.3 million.

A gas line that runs across the bridge will be temporarily relocated under the River Des Peres to keep Maplewood residents in service during the construction, a Laclede Gas spokesperson said.
