A Different Way - Raising Armadillos

A Different Way is a new phase of my blog. After talking about Deep Travel for a while, it is now time to talk about things in a totally different way. Enjoy.

For a number of years, I have been raising armadillos in my backyard. I know that it sounds incredibly boring, but it has filled my life with a new joy.

They are a nasty looking, nasty smelling creature, but they have a side of them that draws me to them. I enjoy watching them scurry for bugs and try to find a way to escape the fence in my backyard. They have helped to fertilize my grass, lower the bugs in the back yard, and they have brought a new level of appreciation of animals for my daughters.

Looking back, I would have never seen myself as a new breed of armadillo farmer. I guess that you could call it urban armadilloing. The next phase of my work will be breeding a new variety of armadillo, one that has a softer shell, and apparently tastes good when it is prepared correctly. Wish me luck. It is amazing the things that we can do with animal science in our own back yard.
