Brentwood Debater Earns National Recognition

Brentwood Debater Chris Reichert places top in the nation in Indianapolis

Senior Chris Reichert, a member of the Brentwood High School Debate Team for four years, recently returned from a week in Indianapolis where he competed in the National Forensic League National Speech and Debate Tournament.  After a week of competition, Chris placed in the top 14 in the entire nation in the Supplemental Debate event.  Over 500 students started out in the competition, and at the end of the week, Chris was given an award and considered a national semi-finalist.  This is the fourth national tournament Chris has attended and his second time qualifying for the National Forensic League National Tournament.

Senior Paige Anderson and junior Dallas Neely also competed in Indianapolis last week and advanced through several rounds of competition in various events.  Just qualifying for the national tournament places students in the top one percent of all speech and debate students in the country.  To advance into elimination rounds at the national tournament is simply amazing!

The Brentwood Debate team will host their own local tournament at Brentwood High School again in November 2012.  If you are interested in more information about the team or volunteering at the tournament, please contact Coach Robyn Haug at rhaug@brentwood.k12.mo.us.
