Asbestos Removed From Brentwood High

A leaking toilet caused unexpected work in the high school office over the summer.

Some preventative maintenance and emergency repairs took place at over the summer.

A plumbing mishap on the second floor caused water to flow down into the main office, ruining the carpet. When the carpet was pulled up, asbestos tile was discovered, said Jeff Heinrich, industrial arts teacher.

The office was sealed until the asbestos was completely removed and abated. A new laminate wood floor has replaced the old carpet, and the walls have been repainted from green to a peach color.

In another water-related repair, the north wing entrance was remodeled because of drainage and settling problems. The foundation was repaired and waterproofed down to water level. The school also added a new patio, stairs, rails and handicap ramp.

Parts of the high school have a new roof too.
