Brentwood High School Nominated a 2013 National Blue Ribbon School

Brentwood High School was selected as a National Blue Ribbon School in 2006.

Brentwood High School has been nominated as a 2013 National Blue Ribbon School by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Missouri Commissioner of Education, Dr. Chris Nicastro, notified the district that the high school was one of eight schools nominated in Missouri.

“It was a huge honor that Brentwood High School was selected as a National Blue Ribbon School in 2006," Superintendent David Faulkner said.  It’s an even bigger honor to be  nominated a second time and to be the only high school in St. Louis County nominated this year.”

The U.S. Department of Education invites Chief State School Officers to nominate schools from their state that meet the National Blue Ribbon School requirements.  Schools are selected based on exemplary performance, where students, regardless of background, demonstrate high achievement or for exemplary improvement, demonstrating significant progress in improving student performance. The school’s performance on state assessments is the determining measure for selection.  Brentwood was selected because of exemplary performance.

The final selection as a Blue Ribbon School is based on the application and meeting the Missouri School Improvement (MSIP 5) achievement criteria, based on spring Missouri Assessment Program results. The nominated schools must go through an extensive application process that gives specific details regarding exceptional instructional programs and practices.  Assessment data for five years is submitted, along with additional documentation.  The U.S. Secretary of Education may also visit the nominated schools to conduct a site visit.

“Our high school is honored to be recognized and nominated for this national award a second time," said Brentwood High School Principal Dr. Don Rugraff. "This is the direct result of the hard work, collaboration and effort of our dedicated teachers and staff who are committed to helping all our students achieve at the highest levels.”
