Bill Henske is Academy of Science – Monsanto Fund Science Teacher of the Year

The MRH teacher will receive $2,000 for professional development and $500 for classroom supplies.

 

Bill Henske, a seventh- and eighth-grade science teacher at , has been named the 2012 Academy of Science - Monsanto Fund Science Teacher of the Year.

He will be presented with a plaque at the 2012 Academy of Science Outstanding Scientist Dinner on April 19 at the Chase Park Plaza. The evening begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:00 p.m.

At MRH, being teacher of the year is the result of all my fantastic coworkers with whom I collaborate and integrate. It is the result of a my wonderfully supportive administration that gives us the freedom and resources to pursue what is best for student learning. All of that being said, the high quality, diversity, and enthusiasm of our MRH students keeps teaching fun and rewarding.

We are an expeditionary school. I will use most of the grant to investigate new expeditions /science to increase the opportunities and experiences for our middle school students.

He said he sent that message  while outside making pizzas with his class in an outdoor pizza oven. He made 40 pizzas with the kids using a wood-powered oven.

 

Since its inception, the Academy has promoted the recognition of the impressive scientists of St. Louis. Each award-winner represents both an extraordinary caliber of expertise and a dedication to fostering science literacy.

Henske will also receive $2,000 to be used for professional development and $500 to be used for classroom supplies.
